INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER – WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR PARTICULARLY?
QPLT-1000 flowmeter operating conditions in a food industry plant
Implementation: Installation of a QPLT-1000 flowmeter for measuring sewage in partial channels in a gravity sewage system in a processing plant
Challenge: The installed flowmeter began to indicate a filling height of 99%, while after opening the inspection it was found to be about 50% full.
The reason lies in the type of sewage – in the case of sewage in the food industry – e.g. meat plants, dairies, breweries – when sewage is discharged that does not meet the requirements, it may result in the level probe being covered, e.g. with fat, whey, etc. As a result, this causes the flow indications to be overstated.
Solution: In this situation, we rinsed the inside of the height sensor in the flowmeter. The flowmeter indicated a 50% filling of the pipe – variably from 48% to 52%. We also checked the flow on the reference flowmeter – the readings were similar, which confirmed that the problem had been solved.
We also connected a flow recorder for ongoing monitoring.

Overstatement of flow readings on the flow meter simultaneously informs the water company about the need to test the quality of sewage at the outlet.
